BigGuide.net was acquired from a Middle Eastern gentleman in May of 2007. BigGuide.net was a Web directory offering Webmasters free listings for their Websites when we took it over. It was quickly changed to a premium or paid directory as the 200+ submission every day were unmanagable.

Since BigGuide was converted to a premium paid directory traffic slowed, but not as much as expected. Traffic continues to increase and it is currently the busiest site we own with over 15,000 visits each month. Revenues aren’t much, but they too are increasing from both listing review fees (a very low $10 per listing) and Google Adwords.

The site requires little maintenance and drives good traffic to it’s sister sites and provides some SEO value to them as well.

Back in 1998 I knew momz.com would be a great domain to build a brand around. The “z” allows “momz” to be brandable whereas the proper spelling of “moms” is a generic word. Over the years some of the ideas for it have included; a shopping mall, a chain of stores for moms, a clothing line for moms, but I’ve always felt that it should become an online community for the modern day mom or as I like to say “a mom of the internet generation” and a vehicle for promoting mom sites and mom-owned business.

Back in late 2005 Web directories were hot and because I was able to build a Web directory using an inexpensive script I decided to build a Directory Websites for moms or mom sites. The directory has over 1,200 mom links and is growing, but much more slowly then planned. Eventually it became clear the directory wasn’t going to be “enough” for the strong domain name momz.com so it was moved to a sub-folder and the homepage became a “mom blog”.

Today momz.com is pulling more traffic organically through search engines each and every day. We will add an online store this Fall featuring products made by moms that can’t be bought in mega-stores. We know thousands of such moms with products that want to grow their businesses, but they struggle with generating enough demand. Momz.com will help pull prospective customers in to buy their heartmade products. We’re convinced people will enjoy being able to shop for a wide variety of very unique products made by people just like them as easily as shopping at amazon.com.

We also own momz.net and momz.tv. More on them in subsequent posts.

I bought the izit.com domain name on June 30th, 1998 so it has passed the 10 year milestone.

Over the years there have been a few offers made for the name and a slew of requests for an asking price. But, I love the name as much as I did when I acquired it in 1998. It’s ideal for either an IT company or a company involved in the internet or “dot com” business. Or it could be used for an Ask Jeeves type of site titled “What Iz It?” or similar (replace “What” with “Who, Where, When, How” and it works. The beauty is that the name is so short and memorable that far less branding and advertising would be required then for a more difficult domain name.

I consider it one of the best brand name domains I own and one of the better ones available anywhere related to the internet. Unfortunately I didn’t know anything about SEO so the domain sat under wraps for many years until a couple of years ago when I launched what I call a “placeholder site” for the domain. This helps improve it’s SEO strength as the search engines place more value on older sites and domains.

If you’re interested in making an offer to buy izit.com please feel free as I will consider selling at the right price. But, it had better be a solid offer as I still think it would be a tremendous asset for a business in need of a strong brand name with matching dot com domain.
